Progress Update for JWYE Foundation

1. Introduction
This update presents an overview of current student activity and class operations at two JWYE-supported centres — Kg. Muhibbah and Skudai — highlighting student engagement levels, subject offerings, and key academic progress milestones.

Key Achievement – Introduction of Pure Science Stream
In 2024, four Form 3 students from Kg. Muhibbah Centre qualified to move into the Pure Science stream, undertaking Physics, Add Maths, Chemistry, and Biology. This marks a significant milestone — the first time in Tara Foundation’s history that multiple students have successfully progressed into the pure science track.

To support this achievement, Kg. Muhibbah became the first Tara centre to conduct pure science classes, currently offering Physics and Add Maths through an in-house teacher. Building on this momentum, we plan to expand the curriculum in 2026 to include
Chemistry, Biology, Accounts, Economics, Business Studies, and Computer Science to better support our secondary-level students with diverse academic interests and career pathways.

Remarks

A sharp dip in student numbers occurred in mid-2024 due to class schedules clashing with students’ availability and an insufficient number of teachers, which limited our ability to conduct all subject classes. These issues have since been successfully mitigated through timetable adjustments and improved teacher coordination. Student numbers have remained consistent since then, and the current 65 active students reflect a stable and encouraging figure in line with the centre’s present capacity and available teaching resources.

3. Skudai Centre
Launched: 17 November 2024
Initial Enrolment (January 2025): 60 students
Current Active Students (August 2025): 83 students
Average Class Hours: 170 hours per month (≈ 42 hours per week)
Average Student Attendance: ≈ 10 hours per week

Subjects Taught

Level Subjects Offered
Lower Primary (Std 1–3) – BM, English, Mathematics & Science
Upper Primary (Std 4–6) – BM, English, Mathematics & Science
Lower Secondary (F1–F3) – English, Mathematics & Sejarah
Upper Secondary (F4–F5) – English, Mathematics, Science & Sejarah

Remarks
Skudai Centre has shown encouraging growth since its establishment in November 2024, with active student numbers rising from 60 in January 2025 to 83 by August 2025 a 38% increase within eight months. This steady growth reflects strong community trust and effective local outreach. The centre maintains a full academic timetable across all levels, supported by dedicated volunteer teachers and stable student attendance.

Our Skudai centre has the potential to grow even more to benefit even more students. However due to its distance from our HQ in Petaling Jaya it lacks the physical support of replacement teachers and in house teachers. Hence, we would need to increase the number of part time teachers to ensure we can offer the full spectrum of cassess.

4. Moving Forward

We have continuous ongoing student recruitment efforts and plan to intensify our student recruitment drive especially at end of this year to ensure our students numbers continue to grow. The main challenge however is student retainment.

Moving forward, Tara Foundation aims to strengthen teaching capacity and academic depth, particularly for our secondary-level students. We are currently sourcing additional part-time teachers who are subject-matter experts to ensure high-quality delivery in
specialised subjects such as the sciences, mathematics, and elective streams. This step is essential to maintain academic excellence and to nurture more Tara students capable of pursuing higher academic pathways.

Tara Foundation remains committed to enhancing teaching quality, curriculum breadth, and student progress. We look forward to deepening our collaboration with JWYE to empower more students toward academic and personal success in 2026 and beyond.
